Electrical measurements

Use multimeter in series or clamp
P = V × I (I in amps)
Vf ≈ Vsupply − (I × R)

Light output

Same distance for fair comparison
*Relative only (lux × distance² proxy)

Compare LEDs

Select LEDs on the Profiles tab (click cards), then view ranking here.
LED Color V (V) R (Ω) I (mA) P (W) Vf (V) Lux Dist (cm) Rel. lm/W*
Select at least one LED to compare

* Relative efficacy is a proxy (lux × distance² / power). Use identical distance & setup for meaningful ranking. Higher is better.

How to measure consistently

  1. Power supply — Set a fixed voltage (e.g. 12 V). Note the exact value.
  2. Series resistor — Choose a resistor that keeps current in a safe range for the LED. Measure actual resistance if possible.
  3. Current — Measure with a multimeter in series (mA range) or a good clamp meter. Enter the reading in mA.
  4. Lux — Place the lux meter at a fixed distance (e.g. 50 cm) on the optical axis. Avoid ambient light or subtract it. Same distance for every LED.
  5. Auto calculations
    • Power (W) = Voltage × Current (A)
    • Approximate Vf = Vsupply − (IA × R)
    • Relative efficacy proxy ∝ (lux × distance²) / power — useful only for ranking under identical conditions
  6. Tips — Warm up LEDs a few minutes before measuring. Keep ambient temperature similar. Record CCT/color for reference.
